Taking off..

The day has finally arrived (technically tomorrow) when we are taking off on our little Europe bicycle adventure. Finished packing all our stuff and managed to squeeze our bikes into their suitcases. That was definitely easier said than done. The fine folks at Bike Friday managed to design a nice bicycle puzzle. Put one part in the wrong place, and the suitcase won’t close! It definitely has us a little worried knowing the puzzle challenged TSA inspectors might be rummaging through those suitcases wondering "how in the heck you can fit a bicycle in such a small suitcase!". We took some precautions by posting a nice "Please note…" placard on the outside of the suitcase along with a big "River Dunes Roadies" sticker. Also, added a bright yellow luggage strap with "Please Handle with Care" lettering all over it for special effect. We’ll see on the other end of the Atlantic if that made any difference. We could be doing this trip on unicycles..

For you out there in the "Friends of Jack" club, we are not planning keeping our dog in a kennel for close to 7 weeks while we are gone. We were very fortunate in finding a good house/dog sitter who did a great job on our last vacation while visiting our daughters in Seattle. Jack seems to be a happy camper with this arrangement. Thanks Buffy!

We also took advantage of the extra time away of hauling our sailboat "Lily Grace" out of the water and put her on the hard at Sailcraft marina for some long overdue maintenance items. Probably a good thing given that we are still in the middle of the hurricane season. That said, the River Dunes marina is probably the best place to have a boat in the water when the weather does get nasty.

Speaking of nasty weather, there is a potential tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic that looks to be heading our way. Keeping our fingers crossed it decides to stay further east.. Encouraging that the Towndock (our big town news & stuff website) shows storm Cristobal heading like one of my typically bad golf tee shots; ......a big slice towards Bermuda instead.

Before..
...and after
Cristobal heading towards "the rough" (hopefully)
