Planning..and more planning...

Three weeks to go before we stuff all our bikes, belongings, and ibuprofen into suitcases and fly to Brussels and begin our little adventure across the ocean. We have done quite a bit to get ready, but there are always the nagging questions of what to bring and not to bring? What will the weather be like? How to not look like a typical dorky American tourist walking around the cities there? The white tennis shoes, blue jeans, and "I love Nascar" tee shirts will stay in our closet (ok, we really don't own those shirts)... The good thing is that we are touring western Europe and not Mongolia, so there will be plenty of places to buy anything there we absolutely need. A beret might be just the thing for Walt...

Part of the trip is to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary (what a great 30 years it has been!) which will happen on Sep 29th while we will be over there. We had our first trip to Europe in 1986 right before we moved to Colorado Springs from Dallas where we originally met. We still remember the trip fondly. We are hoping for some of the same great weather that we had then.

Us in 1986 on our first trip to Europe together. Here in Giethoorn (Venice of Holland) with rented bicycles.

The general plan for the trip is to stay in Brussels, Belgium a few days with good friends, then hop on the bikes and head towards the coast and north into Holland. Yes, technically it is "The Netherlands", but "Holland" is what it was mainly called it when Walt lived there as a kid. Besides, it is easier to type as well in our Blog... We plan to tour around Holland for about 2 weeks, then catch a train to southern France where we will do the same there. Hopefully our biking legs will be in better shape by the time we hit the hills (maybe a mountain or two) of Provence/Languedoc.

Then again, it is a general plan with no commitments to be anywhere at anytime other than the flight back home on Oct 7th. That is the beauty about our plan! We`ll adjust as needed based on what we like and don't like along the way. Stay a day or longer in a nice place along the way, or hop on a train to sunnier weather. Linda would like to visit Rome or Croatia, so we may do that as well (without bikes). Stay tuned when it actually happens..
